We didn't say it won't work, we just point out that it's complex, and that some Big Money is moving in other directions. And we end by saying that we hope that RNAi is eventually a useful biomedical approach. I stand by that.Anne Buchananhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09212151396672651221noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1812431336777691886.post-44270424600950055562010-11-30T18:13:02.611-05:002010-11-30T18:13:02.611-05:00"There are several things here worthy of comm..."There are several things here worthy of comment besides the discouraging news that a hopeful-sounding therapy might not work."<br />NHP studies of the Alnylam liver cancer and TTR drugs showed very positive results, so whst makes you think these won't work in humans? The safety profile in humans looks good so far, with preliminary human efficacy results due to be released in 2011. I'm not sure I understand the basis on which you're betting against these results. Novartis chose 31 RNAi drugs to proceed with, and Roche is the only big pharma to announce it was ending its program. Many observers note that the Roche decision is consistent with a move away from P1 & P2 developmental work as part of the company strategy. But you seem to draw very definite conclusions from the Roche move without considering the actual pre-clinical and clinical data generated so far. You may be right or wrong, but IMO you certainly don't have the basis to conclude on Roche alone without actually looking at the science--as opposed to just philosophizing about it.
