It's Labor Day here in the States, so we thought we'd lazily offer you a post that isn't us complaining about any papers or disparaging any study results. Instead, we're linking to a story in The Guardian about the bioacoustics of species decline. Here are links to audio examples of before and after sounds in various habits. Before logging, and after; before reef damage, and after. Musician and naturalist Bernie Krause has been recording ecosystems for decades, and his recordings starkly document in a way that the printed word just can't accomplish the disappearance of numerous species as humans encroach on their habitat.
"The sixth extinction," as The Guardian headlines their story.
